Competency
In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:
Describe methods to collect and analyze intelligence
Scenario
Congratulations! Your proposal for intelligence gathering has been approved! Now it’s time to plan your mission.
Directions
You will need to analyze various factors inside of your chosen country (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, or Honduras) that make this mission important to our nation’s security.
First, describe how you will gather information on the internal sentiments of your target country. You may want to consider some of the following methods for gathering information:
Media
Social media
Citizens within the country
Open source information
Government/official websites originating from your target country
Then, explain how you will analyze the information you gather. Answer each of the following:
What pieces of information are relevant to the United States?
What does this information tell us?
Is it generally positive toward the United States?
Is it generally negative toward the United States?
Is a potential warning needed?
Next, describe types of events or indicators that will need to be monitored for development into potential threats. What pieces of information did you see that would require us to increase surveillance on what is happening there? Answer each of the following:
What are the types of events or indicators that will need to be monitored?
Why would these types of events or indicators need to be monitored more closely?
How could these types of events or indicators potentially develop into a threat?
Finally, examine the information gathered in order to make recommendations on the threat to the United States. Consider some of the following:
What are the pro- and anti-U.S. ideas being communicated within the country?
What is the political environment within the country?
What does this political environment mean to the United States?
What to Submit
To complete this project, you must submit the following:
Submit your mission plan as a 350- to 500-word document with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins.
