Outline for Research Essay
Rationale:
Not every academic writer bothers with creating a formal outline of their essays. Advanced writers, in particular, are able to outline their ideas, at least for shorter essays, in their minds, without ever resorting to pen and paper.
That said, for novice academic writers – and that is many of you – and for writers creating a longer research essay – and that is all of you, creating a formal outline is an excellent idea. Even if you don’t use your outline as the basis for your research essay, the very process of thinking about your introduction, your thesis statement, your body paragraphs, your supporting evidence, and your conclusion will help you immensely in the drafting process.
So, what should your outline look like?
I have provided examples below, but I am looking for the following:
1) Your full name, my title and last name, the name of the class, the date in the day month year format all in the top left-hand corner of the first page.
