Your paper should be approximately 8 double-spaces pages of text before the illustrations on a topic related to art 1760-1840 in Europe and America: an artist’s career, a theme, development of a medium, etc.. Consider your expertise and interests.
Students will analyze how the development of new techniques and technologies for the creation of art works enabled artists to address their audiences in new ways.
Students will describe how content is communicated in visual terms in essays on works seen in digital images and in person.
Students will interpret the impact of historical and cultural context on the creation of art works for patrons and audiences in different geographical locations and time periods, identifying relevant religious, economic, technological, and political factors.
Students will research a topic related to course content chosen by the student, resulting in a paper of approximately 8 pages with illustrations and citations. This research paper will be submitted as a proposal with annotated bibliography of scholarly sources, a first draft, and a final draft, with feedback at each stage.
