Journal Article Summary rubric
Follow the format of a “sample journal article summary” to incorporate the following questions:
Point value        Critique questions
            Introduction
5     What is the question being addressed? What is the study purpose? Does the purpose
    Clarify the focus or aim of the study?
5    Is a particular theory or model identified as a framework of the study?
    Does the literature review include current studies, and a rationale for the direction of the study you are examining?
3    Is a hypothesis statement clear? Please state it. 3        Describe the variables in the article.
        Method
5    What design was used to conduct the study? Does the study include a treatment or intervention, if so describe the intervention.
5    What is your sample size, what are the demographics of the sample being studied? What is the study setting?
3    What are some of the ethical considerations to consider? Was IRB approval obtained?
        Results
5    Identify the analysis techniques used. Describe the statistical findings( significant and non-significant).
        Discussion
5    What is the researcher’s interpretation of the findings? How are these findings generalized? 5    What are the limitations of the study? What are the future implications of the findings?
6    Style format: APA title page, reference page, 12 point Times New Roman font, etc.
