There are two options for this discussion, both of which ask that you create a comparative representation and describe it. Choose the one that interests you the most based on the readings/videos from the module. Your response should clearly link back to material from the module and expand upon it based on the prompt that you choose.
Option 1: Changes in Technology Over Time
For this option, use the videos you watched as inspiration to think about some important cultural changes that have resulted from technology in your lifetime. This might include how you spend your free time, what is expected of children and adults, common practices, and more. It could even include changes with how you view friendship, identity, or school and learning. Canva’s Venn Diagram templateLinks to an external site. may be a great place to start in juxtaposing your “before and after.” Additionally, you are welcome to create a drawing of your work using SketchpadLinks to an external site. (be sure to save the image or screenshot your final work for submission) or create a video in your preferred video capturing tool.https://www.canva.com/templates/EADapFEekNM-geometric-venn-diagram/https://sketch.io/sketchpad/
2.Rather than assign you a participation and attendance grade at the end of the semester, it is important you have an ongoing opportunity to reflect on your performance throughout the course to inform the grade you receive. As such, you will submit a brief written reflection/self-assessment and receive a grade at two times–broken into smaller point values–rather than one, all-encompassing grade at the end of the semester.
This reflection/self-assessment should be short, between 150 words, so no need to view this as a long, formal writing assignment.
Here are some possible areas to consider in your reflection:
Participation in Learning Community
You are present and prepared to participate and engage in the learning community, including whole group and/or small group discussions.
You have read, viewed, or listened to the module material that informs our discussion and woven it into your interactions with the community.
Online Discussion and Engagement
Discussion post is appropriate: it is thoughtful, reflective, and relevant.
Discussion post shows awareness of community, engages with posts by others or recognizes that others will read and potentially respond to and engage with the post.
Minor typos don’t cloud meaning for the reader.
You substantially respond to (at least) one peer each week. By substantially, we mean that your response engages and extends a line of thinking, making connections back to related readings, or your own experiences, or offers an alternative perspective, or differing opinion.
Given these general expectations, assign yourself a grade out of 50 points and explain/defend why that is the grade you have earned. Obviously, I would like to earn an A. So far, I receivef a good grade on every assignment.
3. Make Your Own Map
https://www.socialexplorer.com/create-mapLet’s try to make another map: This one on your own.
Go back to the create mapLinks to an external site. page
Choose any category you are interested in. The World Development Indicators category is a great start for a global focus; the United States category gives you the most recent data for a more localized analysis. Play with the data to see what interests you by clicking “Change Data.” You can also try changing the visualization type from shaded area to bubbles–sometimes altering the visual can help you make new inferences.
One thing you could try, if unsure of what to do, is to start with the zip code of your hometown (or University Park) and go from there.
Once you’re done, click “Export as Image” in the top right corner. Choose the scale you want. Click export. It’ll give you a ZIP file. Unzip it and share the picture of your map.
With your submission, describe why you made this map. What interested you about it? What new ways of understanding your (or any) community can be illuminated when you visualize it in this way?
All the modules for this lesson are provided in the file section. Please read them before, They are necessary for the assignment.
