Unit 5 Assignment 3 Case Study A Themes: purity, separation, and conversation Ian is a freshman this year at a local community college. He recently came to the realization that, although he is an Apostolic and attends a local Pentecostal church in the area, he is in an environment where he has a choice to be accountable for his actions or not. He just moved into the dorms on campus, and few of his new friends have a Christian background. The window of his dorm room faces the entrance of the girls’ dorm. Being a typical young man, he has already noticed there are some good-looking girls coming and going from their dorm. He has noticed that the male and female students are quite flirtatious in their interactions with each other, and has observed that some of the things they talk about in mixed company tend to be improper. Also, he has already experienced the temptation of attraction to girls that are not of his faith. Ian loves God and wants to live an exemplary life of separation in the environment that he is in. It is truly his heart’s desire to serve God and to be a good witness. He is beginning to understand that there are some very specific biblical principals regarding honesty, purity and conversation that he is going to have to embrace personally to stay true to God and keep his life clean as he attends college. He has already made an appointment to talk to his local pastor about setting up some accountability measures in his life. Additionally, he is working to be consistent in his daily spiritual disciplines. On the second day of school, an attractive girl caught up to him on his way to class and asked him for his phone number. Caught off guard, Ian shared his name but made up an excuse regarding his phone so he did not have to share his number. He did, however, feel flattered and was attracted to her. You are a friend of Ian, and he has asked you for guidance about what he should do if this girl approaches him again or if other attractive girls on campus start pursuing him. What are some ways that you would guide Ian to apply biblical principles from Scripture to his situation? Instructions
